Pope Francis is named Esquire's Best Dressed Man of 2013

This is definitely 'unconventional' because the Head of the Catholic Church mostly wears his Papal regalia, regardless Esquire Magazine has named him their Best Dressed Man of 2013.

The magazine said he was picked because of his humility and his simple manner of dressing, which has 'signaled a new era and for many, renewed hope for the Catholic Church'

D'banj and Genevieve Nnaji are Back Together

Dbanj and Genevieve Nnaji are back together two years after they parted ways, Genevieve is currently staying at D'banj's Lekki home, and  they are already talking marriage.
The loved up couple dated on and off from 2009 to 2011 before Genevieve broke off the relationship because of D'banj's commitment issues. Hope it works out for them this time around.

F1 legend Michael Schumacher fighting for his life following horrific skiing accident

Retired Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, 44, is fighting for his life after he fell and hit his head on a rock while skiing off piste with his 14-year-old son Mick in the resort of Meribel in the French Alps yesterday morning Sunday December 29th.

Doctors who treated the seven-time Formula One world champion said he would ‘have died’ had he not been wearing a crash helmet. But despite the helmet, Michael Schumacher suffered serious head injuries that has left him in a coma since the accident. The German driver required immediate brain surgery as he got to the hospital and is currently being kept in an induced coma, officials said.

Speaking at a press conference at the Grenoble Hospital where he's being treated, Doctors said they can't predict the future for Michael Schumacher.
"Michael Schumacher was the victim of very serious trauma. He was very agitated when he arrived and we decided he was in a critical situation and he quickly went into a coma. The neurosurgical treatment he received brought us quite a lot of information. We had to operate urgently to release some pressure in his head. Unfortunately, he has some lesions within his brain. We judge him to be in a very serious situation. We cannot predict the future for Michael Schumacher." Continue...
Schumacher with his son
Chief anaesthesiologist professor Jean-Francois Payen added:
‘We can say he is fighting for his life. We think his helmet did help, without a helmet he wouldn't be here now. We judge him to be in a very serious situation. We cannot tell what the outcome will be yet. We are working hour-by-hour but it's too early to say what is going to happen and to have a prognosis.’
Doctors during the press conference
"On his arrival we examined him clinically and we realised he was in a serious condition, in a coma, with in fact cranial pressure. The brain scan showed a number of pieces of information, some intercranial haematoma (internal bleeding) but also some cerebral contusions (bruising of the brain tissue) and oedema (build-up of fluid). We operated urgently to try to eliminate the haematoma. After the operation we saw that we had been able to eliminate these haematoma but also sadly the appearance of various bilateral lesions. So therefore he was taken to intensive care to try to help.'
"I'd say this accident happened in the right place because he was taken into hospital immediately and operated on as soon as he arrived, this meant his state is critical and he is still in a coma and he will be kept in a coma.
"Everything that needed to be done has been done at the moment we can't really say when he will recover, we cannot answer this yet.
Schumacher's wife and two children are reportedly at his bedside. God please make him alright

12 Best Albums Of 2013 From Nigerian Entertainment Today

12 best Nigerian albums of 2013

Going by reports in Alaba, close to 100 Nigerian albums were officially released into market in 2013. While most of these albums, we sincerely will never get to know due to poor promotion, marketing and distribution, there were a few of them that did stand out.

NET presents the 12 best Nigerian albums of 2013 based on critical performance and commercial acceptance - The authentic list.

SEE WHO MADE THE LIST AFTER THE CUT

Iyanya
Iyanya’s long awaited sophomore release didn’t disappoint – we knew what to expect; unrepentant Pop/dance songs with not much lyrical content. Five powerful singles produced by DeeTunes and a few other picks was all Iyanya’s album needed to pull the much desired comeback. It probably sold the most too.

Tiwa Savage - Once Upon a Time
Definitely the most anticipated debut album of the year, after months of push backs, Tiwa finally released the LP – a blend of beautiful vocals, lyrics and impressive instrumentation. ‘Once Upon a Time’ has officially become the go-to album for any Nigerian female act who plans to drop her own project.

Jesse-Jagz-Jagznation-vol-1-album
M.I’s younger brother won many converts to his rebel movement with this near-classic sophomore release. How can we describe this? Try picturing the rapper boarding a time machine propelling him into the future, only to return with this body of work. This album which blended Hip-Hop, Reggae and Ragga music in one body couldn’t have been made in 2013. #FutureMusic

Brymo
Brymo’s third album had no commercial sales as label squabbles saw its release restricted to only iTunes. Nevertheless, the potency of the album is so strong that it’ll make any relevant album list for the next decade. Brymo’s story board, lyricism and live band instrumentation are the key factors that earned him his first classic.

Banky W - R&BW album art
After a solo hiatus, Mr Capable returned with his fourth solo album which, as the name suggests, was a blend of slow and mid-tempo joints. Banky showed of his understanding of music, writing prowess and calmness at a point where the biggest act on his label was threating to walk away.

ALAGA IBILE Cover art
Reminisce’s second album can be best described as a second-first impression. It was almost like he wanted to erase our thoughts on his lacklustre debut and honestly he did. With major production from Sossick and Sarz, Reminisce was able to make a very impressive blend of club bangers and street anthems.

WAJE-Albumart-front
After stalling for a billion years, R&B singer Waje finally released her debut album and captivated us with her superior vocals. The LP was candid, honest and emotional. The stand out song of the album is the Cobhams-produced ‘No be u‘ – the best female recording we’ve heard in a long while.

D'banj D'kings Men Album art.
D’banj gathered his consortium of singers and producers for his first release in five years and without former label collaborator Don Jazzy. The verdict? D’banj is still king. With three international acts Snoop Lion, Kanye West and Big Sean on the album, plus an impressive performance from younger brother KaySwitch, Banga Lee remains on top of the world.

Lagbaja-Album-cover
The masked man’s ninth studio album is vintage Lagbaja. His writing, arrangement, great narration, and production make the LP a pleasurable listening experience. Add that to his sarcasm and humour as he sings about the ills of the Nigerian society.

Burna Boy - L.I.F.E
‘Burna ranking’ didn’t waste any time dropping his debut album with included some chart topping hits like the Afrobeat inspired ‘Run my race’, ‘Like to party’ and ‘Tonight’. As at when ‘tungba’ music is at an all-time high, the 14-track album can be defined as a tool of reformation.

Sound Sultan - 'Me, My Mouth and Eye' album cover
His sixth album in his 14 year on the microphone, Sound Sultan displays a gamut of styles that highlights his dexterity and shows off his writing skills. The 20 track LP is just like his music career, crafted in a way that can stand the test of time and be relevant in today’s market.

Olamide - Baddest Guy Ever Liveth album cover

We were all surprised when Olamide announced he would drop a new album in 2013 making him the second rapper to release a studio LP in the space of 12 months. #BGEL did sound below par compared to his critically acclaimed ‘YBNL’ sophomore but huge props goes to Olamide as we can’t think of another artiste who can go this hard.

Akure Kingdom gets female monarch

Governor Adams Oshiomole Survives Road Accident

Governor Adams Oshiomhole Survives Road Accident

Press Statement from Edo State Government
Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole survived a motor accident at Ewu Village along the ever-busy Benin-Auchi road in Edo State at about 9.45am Saturday, 28th December 2013 on his way back to Benin City from his Iyamho Village. The incident occurred at about 9.45am at Ewu, in Edo Central Senatorial District, when a Peugeot J5 Bus filled with tomatoes and plantains apparently lost control and rammed into the Governor’s Flag Car from the opposite direction before swerving into a roadside ditch.
Three vehicles in the Governor’s convoy were in front of the Governor’s Flag Car and had passed the Peugeot J5 Bus before it [J5 Bus] had direct impact with the Governor’s car, which had the Governor, his Aide-De-Camp [ADC] and his Driver as occupants. The Governor’s Car was badly affected but both occupants of the Peugeot J5 Bus and that of the Governor’s sustained no injuries.
The Peugeot J5 Bus was following a truck that was descending the Ewu Slope when it suddenly veered off into the Governor’s lane from the opposite direction and directly impacted on the Governor’s vehicle, apparently because of brake failure. The good story is that nobody sustained injuries in both vehicles. The Comrade Governor is hale and hearty, his ADC and other occupants of the Peugeot J5 are also in good condition.

The incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Station at Ewu for further investigation. This is to assure all good people of Edo State that there is no cause for alarm. Cute couple!

Too sexy for a gospel album cover?

Religious groups have been criticizing Mary Mary's Erica Campbell's new album cover, saying her dress is too tight and she's showing off too much curves on a gospel album cover. They think she should have toned it down a little. Erica is going solo after leaving Mary Mary.

Nigerian doctors begin 5-day warning strike

Nigerian doctors today began a 5-day warning strike following a 21-day ultimatum issued weeks ago to the federal government, demanding pay rise, improved welfare, infrastructure and other benefits which was promised to them.

The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Osahon Enabulele said this is the first phase of the strike, that the second phase would be effective after the yuletide if there are no favorable developments.

All doctors in public hospitals this morning retrieved their services
