Marlon Wayans Announced As MAMA's Host

American actor, producer, comedian, writer and film director, Marlon Wayans has been announced as the host for 2014 MAMA's awards. 

MTV unveiled Wayans as next host after the likes of Wyclef Jean and Eve, who have hosted earlier MAMA events.

Marlon Wayans first found fame with the TV show “In Living Color”, the highly acclaimed sketch comedy show that helped launch the careers of such future stars as Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx. He also co-starred in the comedy sitcom “The Wayans Bros”, a largely autobiographical show based on the brothers' real relationship and personalities.

As an actor, Wayan’s movie outings have grossed more than $736-million at the US box office. Wayans is commonly recognized for his role as “Marcus Copeland” in the 2004 hit comedy WHITE CHICKS, opposite Shawn Wayans, Jamie King and Terry Crews. Wayans also starred alongside Shawn Wayans and Regina Hall in the successful spoof horror franchise SCARY MOVIE and SCARY MOVIE 2.

The 2014 MAMA is set to feature stunning performances from African and international artists, including the awards’ signature collaborations between artists of different genres and cultures – a high point of every show. The stunning line-up for MAMA 2014 includes R&B superstar Miguel, hip hop game changer French Montana, Nigerian sensations Davido, Flavour and Tiwa Savage and South African hit makers Mafikizolo, Uhuru, Oskido and Professor. Many more artists are due to be announced next week.

Celebrating musicians and achievers who have made the most impact on African youth culture throughout the year, MAMA 2014 will, for the first time ever, premiere LIVE across Africa on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV (DStv Channel 130) at 21:00 CAT.   The show will also air tape-delayed across BET’s international footprint. A one-hour MTV World Stage special will also air around the world.

Taking place at the International Conference Centre, Durban on 7 June, The MTV Africa Music Awards is brought to you by KwaZulu-Natal Province in association with Absolut and The City of Durban. South Africa Tourism is also a partner to the MAMA. 

With hundreds of thousands of votes already cast, public voting for 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards continues online at www.mtvbase.com until midnight on 4 June 2014. The winners of the MTV Base Leadership Award and Best Video are chosen exclusively by MTV Base.  Voting for Song of the Year continues up until the show on 7 June.

Wizkid, Davido and Olamide..... rocked Benin

The eighth leg of Nigeria’s favourite concert, Star Music Trek, was everything promised and more as superstar artistes Wizkid, Olamide, Davido, Dr Sid and KCEE pulled out all the stops to ensure that fans left the Ogbe Stadium, Benin with an unforgettable experience. The concert drew thousands of fans to the venue on Saturday, May 17, 2014 and irrepressible host, Do2dtun, ensured the event kept true to its motto — ‘Have fun’! The first star on stage was Dr Sid and his boundless energy spurred his legion of fans, who enthusiastically strained against the barricades hoping for a handshake or even a selfie with him. In deference to his fans, the artiste played top favorites, ‘Afefe’, ‘Surulere’, ‘Lady Don Dada’, ‘Dorobucci’ and more, setting the momentum that the other artistes tried hard to match. 

The electrifying duo of KCEE and Harrysong spiced up the night with everything they had going for them: their unique outfits, dominating stage presence and dance steps as they performed ‘Bulienu Jesus’, ‘Pull Over’, ‘Limpopo’, ‘Akuna Matata’ and other hits. Dancing energetically from one spectrum of the elevated stage to the other, MAMA and BET 2014 nominee Davido stormed the concert with his OBO crew. The artiste, who performed for the first time on The Trek was visibly excited to be on stage. Of special note was the performance of his latest single, ‘Aye’, which immediately threw fans into vigorous dancing with extended calls to the singer for more songs. Olamide’s ‘Ilefo Iluminati’, ‘First of All’, ‘Voice of the Street’, ‘Durosoke’ were some of the many songs the rap star performed that ensured that fans stayed on their feet singing along. 

Caught up in the excitement, many guests were seen displaying their dance skills as the rapper did his thing. Fans eagerly awaited Wizkid’s spectacular performance, his first on The Trek, and the pop star did not disappoint them. The popular performer, who has been nominated for Best Male and Best Collaboration at MAMA 2014, was at his best as he stunned fans with an exciting medley of his award winning songs, ‘Caro’, ‘Jaiye Jaiye’, ‘On Top Your Matter’ and more. With sensational activities such as dance competitions and raffle draws lined up to spice up the evening, guests had a splendid time. On Saturday, May 24, 2014, Ado Ekiti will host the 9th leg of Star Music Trek at Melting Point Ekiti, Ekiti State. Flavor, Fally Ipupa, J Martins, 4X4 & More to Perform at AMAA

The stage of Africa Movie Academy Awards will light up on Saturday 25th May, 2014 when Afro-hip-hop super star Fally Ipupa from the Democratic Republic of Congo alongside Nigerian contemporary high-life act, Flavour, Ghanian 4×4 musical group and Nigeria’s J-Martins will perform at the continental showbiz fiesta.

Announcing the musical stars that will storm the stage, Tony Anih, Director of Administration of AMAA said that Nigerians and international guests that will be in Yenagoa for the awards should be prepared for a great time with the musical artistes drawn from West and Central Africa.

‘’As an African brand AMAA always parade the best of our musical stars and celebrities to perform and host the awards. We are continuing in that tradition again and for our 10th year anniversary we went for the best available within the continent.’’

The event is being sponsored by Glo, MRS oil, Sterling Bank, who are platinum sponsors.

Notable celebrities will serve as hosts for the event, including Nigeria’s Segun Arinze, Nigerian-British born Lloyd Nathaniel, Ghana’s Nana Asokor and a yet to be announced South African celebrity.

The Red carpet of the show will be anchored by Kenya’s Mariam Kaptuiya, Ghana’s Igantius Annor andMamavi Owusu. The Nigerians who will be part of the red carpet anchors include John Mike Nwadibie, Chike Osigwe Emamuzo and Ogbeta Huldah.

AMAA is hosted by Bayelsa State government under the leadership of Governor Seriake Dickson who has promised that the state is well secured for the comfort and enjoyment of residents and visitors who will come from all parts of the world to the oil-rich state.

D'Banj, Miley Cyrus Others to Perform At 2014 World Music Awards

Nigerian-born musician "D'banj", has been listed as one of the world music stars to perform at the 2014 World Music Awards (WMA) ceremony.

The award, which is the 22nd edition, is scheduled hold on May 27 in Monte Carlo, Monaco France.

The event is making a huge come back after a three year hiatus with its last edition in 2010.

A statement from WMA News bulletin obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said D'Banj, born as Dapo Oyebanjo, would perform alongside other world super stars.

They include American artists Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, Flo Rida, Miley Cyrus, Leona Lewis and Jason Derulo among others.

The award had showcased some of the greatest performers of all time, including the late pop star, Michael Jackson, who performed for the last time on TV with Beyoncé and Rihanna at the 2006 WMAs in London.

The WMA was founded in Monte-Carlo in 1989 under the High Patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco.

NAN also learnt that D'Banj plans to celebrate his 10 years anniversary in the entertainment industry later in the year.

He was recently named as one of the Ambassador for the Nigerian Agricultural Entrepreneurs, (Nagroprenuers) by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. (NAN)

Will, Jada & Willow Smith questioned by Child Protective Services

There were reports last week that Will and Jada Smith were being investigated by the Department of Family and Children Services after pictures of their 13-year-old daughter Willow Smith lying in bed with half naked 20-year-old actor Moisés Arias surfaced online.

Willow has been question twice by DFACS. From Radar Online;

“Willow was questioned on two separate occasions by social workers from Child Protective Services,” the source said. “Once in the presence of her parents, and the second time, Willow was alone with the social workers.”

The source continued, “This is how all investigations are handled. Both Will and Jada have also been questioned. At this point, the investigation remains open, and won’t be closed for at least another few weeks.”

“Will and Jada have been extremely cooperative with officials,” according to the source. “Of course, they aren’t happy that their parenting skills are under scrutiny, but they understand.”

Senate Agree on Emergency Rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa

The Senate today gave its nod for the extension of Emergency Rule in the troubled North East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. The House of Reps had on May 15th approved the extension.

With the Senate's approval, extension of Emergency Rule by the Federal Government can now be effected by 6 months.
