President Buhari to remove oil subsidy?

That is according to a report by Vanguard. Read below...
President Buhari plans to totally remove fuel subsidy and use the proceeds for the provision of free and compulsory primary/secondary education across the country. The administration is also said to be working on unbundling the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to make it more efficient in the production and delivery of products to Nigerians.
These proposals form part of the strong recommendations made by the transition committee raised by Buhari to work out a blueprint for his administration.
Asked if the proposal for total subsidy removal had been discussed with labour, the source said that members of organized labour in the country were consulted by the committee and they made presentations on what should be done over the matter.

The source said:
“ Labour is part of the decision; they have accepted the proposal of fuel subsidy removal. “A committee is likely to be set up by the federal government to work out the modalities of what is to be done in that respect. “But the truth is that total removal of fuel subsidy has been recommended with adequate provisions for palliatives on free education and social welfare for the unemployed”, a member of the transition committee said.
The source pointed out that unlike in the past, the Buhari administration is considering the provision of free meals for students to serve as incentives for them to enroll in school.

Widow uses frozen sperm of her dead husband to have two babies

The couple first met in 2008. He proposed later that year but while looking at wedding venues on a Greek island the following year, the man, Mike Parke, began feeling unwell.

Ali Parke said: 'He'd been feeling unwell for a while before we went to look at the venues. He'd kept getting terrible headaches, and had shaky hands and tunnel vision. He'd been for an MRI scan just before we'd gone on holiday and when we got back, the hospital called him back in for the results

Doctors broke the news to the devastated couple that Mike had a stage four malignant melanoma that had spread to his brain and chest. They were told there was nothing that could be done for him, as the tumours had multiplied in his brain.

Mrs Parke said: 'We were just numb with shock. The doctors told us that he had about four to six months left. I just broke down completely. '
The couple brought their wedding forward to October 2010, and on the wedding day Mike's hair had already started to fall out due to the intensive radiotherapy treatment.

After their wedding, the couple discussed the possibility of having children, and Mrs Parke suggested freezing his sperm so that she could have his children after he had gone.
She said: 'I knew that Mike didn't want to die before becoming a dad, so I thought this would be the best decision.
'Mike agreed with me. He knew he wouldn't be around to see his children grow up, but he wanted me to have his children.'

In December 2010, the couple went to an IVF clinic in Southampton where they had Mike's sperm banked. They talked about names and decided on Charlie if it was going to be a boy.
Mrs Parke said: 'I knew we had made the best decision. Shortly afterwards Mike began chemotherapy treatment which took a terrible toll on his health.
'He grew weaker and weaker and he lost his battle for life just four months later. I held his hand as he slipped away.'
Four months later, Mrs Parke had her first attempt at IVF. Two weeks later she discovered she was pregnant.
She said: 'It was so emotional to find out I was pregnant. As my tummy grew I thought of Mike every day, and his little life growing inside me.'

Her son Charlie was born in June 2012, at Bath's Royal United Hospital, weighing a healthy 5Ib15.
She said: 'It was the most amazing moment when he was born. And when I looked into Charlie's big blue eyes I had hope for the future.
He was admitted to hospital five times in his first year with bronchiolitis, and it was terrifying as each time I thought I was going to lose him. But he did pull through, thankfully.'
Mrs Parke then underwent a second IVF attempt last year, but it failed. Another two attempts failed, and then on her fourth attempt she fell pregnant again. She gave birth to daughter Isla in April.

She said: 'Charlie loves his new sister and I know that Mike would be so proud of them both.'

2 US climbers expected to reach top of Yosemite peak in first free-climb of El Capitan

Travel Yosemite Climb-1.jpg

  • In this Jan. 12, 2015 photo provided by Tom Evans, Kevin Jorgeson climbs what has been called the hardest rock climb in the world: a free climb of El Capitan, the largest monolith of granite in the world, a half-mile section of exposed granite in California's Yosemite National Park. El Capitan rises more than 3,000 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor. The first climber reached its summit in 1958, and there are roughly 100 routes up to the top. Two climbers vying to finish the once-seemingly impossible challenge of scaling a sheer slab of granite in California's Yosemite National Park without climbing aids are closing in on the top of the 3,000-foot (900-meter) peak.
If all goes as planned, 30-year-old Kevin Jorgeson of California and 36-year-old Tommy Caldwell of Colorado, should reach the summit of El Capitan early Wednesday, possibly as early as 1 p.m. said spokeswoman Jess Clayton.
They started Dec. 27 and have been "free-climbing," a technique that shuns climbing aids other than harnesses and ropes to prevent deadly falls.
The world has been watching the pair's grueling half-mile journey up the peak's Dawn Wall route. But Clayton says the men won't give media interviews at the top. They plan to discuss the climb Thursday.
Eric Jorgeson, Kevin Jorgeson's father, told KGO-TV his son has always been a climber and watching him fulfill a long-time dream makes him proud.
"He climbed everything he could think of. It made us nervous early on as parents, but we got used to it," the father said. "It was more other parents saying, 'Hey, your son is at the top of a backstop.'"
The two started climbing El Capitan (there are more than 100 routes to the top) when Kevin Jorgeson turned 15 and it has been a birthday tradition ever since.
Becca Caldwell, who is married to Tommy Caldwell, is also on the ground with their toddler son and has been blogging about her excitement as she prepares to reunite with her husband

Dangote Group reduces cement price from N1700 to N1000

Dangote Cement Plc has announced a 41% reduction in the prices of cement, with the different grades now selling for between N1,000 and N1,150, exclusive of Value Added Tax. Now, 50kg of the 32.5 cement grade sells for N1,000, while the higher 42.5 grade will go for N1,150 per bag instead of the current N1,700 that both grades were sold for.

The new price structure was announced by the Group MD, Dangote Cement, Mr. Devakumar Edwin, who said
“We recognise the need for a dramatic increase in the response to the huge infrastructure and housing deficit in the country, and one of the ways of addressing the issue is bringing the price of building materials down to much more affordable levels, especially cement, which is within our own control as part of our contribution to the transformation agenda of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration and the attainment of key milestones in the Millennium Development Goals.”
