Mercedes SL gets more equipment, lower prices and new AMG models

From June 2013, the revisedMercedes SL-Class convertible will be available from £69,960 on the road, with both the SL 350 and SL 500 now coming as AMG Sport models. The SL 350 AMG Sport will start at £69,960 - £2,390 less than the old model - while the SL 500 AMG Sport will be reduced by £3,520 to £79,970, despite an increase in equipment.
The AMG Sport specification adds extra standard equipment claimed by Mercedes to be worth £6,625, including 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, lowered sports suspension and revised damper settings. Buyers will also get an electric glass sunroof, Parktronic sensors with Active Park Assist, upgraded brakes on the SL 350, grey branded brake calipers and AMG styling inside and out. The 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox has also been improved.
Inside, there's black leather upholstery and brushed aluminium trim as standard – although the upholstery can be upgraded to Bengal Red or Porcelain nappa leather for £710 and the trim to Black Ash Wood for a further £345, Plus you can choose to change the standard Polar White exterior paint job to a choice of five metallic colours, two more than previously available, including Hyacinth Red for £690.
The SL 63 also gets an electric panoramic glass sunroof and Parktronic sensors, worth £1,500 at no change to the current list price of £110,785. The SL 65 AMG spec stays the same, as does the £168,285 price tag.

London road to be named after Amy Winehouse

Los Angeles - Amy Winehouse is set to have a road named after her.

There are already a number of tributes being planned to the late singer - who tragically died in July 2011 aged just 27 - and her father Mitch has revealed residents of the King's Cross area in London have been asked to suggest street names for a new housing development close to Camden, where Amy used to live.

Mitch told The Sun newspaper: "To think that our surname would be indelibly linked with London through the naming of a street after Amy is remarkable.

"We are a London family through and through and it would be a tremendous honour if we do become a literal part of the fabric of this great city."


The Rehab singer's fans have already eagerly submitted Winehouse Street as an idea for the road name and Winehouse Way has also been suggested.

Other famous figures being considered for the street include Charles Dickens, who wrote about part of the town and Frankenstein author Mary Shelley who was born there.

Mitch - who has set up the Amy Winehouse Foundation since her untimely death to help people with drug and alcohol addictions - is busy working on a statue of her to be erected in Camden and the star´s family confirmed earlier this week there will be a documentary made about her life

The former NBA star said "I do" to model Yvette Prieto in Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday after five years of dating.
The couple made it official in front of a whopping 500 guests, who arrived on tour buses, at Episcopal church Bethesda-by-the Sea, according to people.
The basketball legend then invited another 1,500 friends to join in the celebrations at the Bears Club, in Jupiter, Fla., not far from his 38,000-square-foot home.
Jordan, who met the 35-year-old stunner at a nightclub in Miami back in 2008, popped the question in 2011 over the Christmas holidays.
This will be the second marriage for the former Chicago Bulls star turned Charlotte Bobcats owner, who was previously married to Juanita Vanoy for 17 years.

LASG shuts 30 illegal medicines stores in Ajah, Lekki

The Lagos State Task Force on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods, said on Sunday that it had sealed about 30 illegal patent medicine stores in the Ajah-Lekki area of the state.
A statement in Lagos by the Lagos State Ministry of Health said that the state government was worried about the dangers posed by illegal drug hawkers.
It quoted Dr Yewande Adesina, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Public Health, as saying that their nefarious activities needed to be urgently curtailed.
The statement alerted members of the public to the risks and dangers of purchasing drugs from hawkers.
``The shops were sealed for offences ranging from sales of drugs without license from the regulatory authorities, to failure to relocate from a market area/adherence to the mandated distance between a patent medicine shop and the market place, among others.
``The drug distribution system in Lagos will get worse if the activities of illegal drug operators are allowed to continue unchecked," the statement quoted Adesina as saying.
It also said that the Special Adviser said that the government would do all it can to stop the inherent dangers associated with the sale of drugs through unauthorised outlets.
The statement also assured the people that the state government was committed to streamlining the drug distribution system in the state to enhance public safety.
It cited the provision of the pharmaceutical laws which prescribed that pharmaceutical premises cannot be located in motor parks or an environment where commercial activities are, and are growing very closely together.
The statement noted that any pharmaceutical premises surrounded or covered completely by a growing market or standing close to it, shall relocate to another suitable location, two years after formal notification to do so.
It, therefore, advised all intending pharmacy operators and patent medicine vendors to liaise with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and the Directorate of Pharmaceutical Services, to get a permit.
The statement added that those interested in the importation, distribution and sales of drugs should get their premises licenced by the appropriate authorities.

Katy Perry Files $6.5 Million Countersuit Against UK Haircare Company

Katy Perry's hairy legal mess continues.
Despite U.K.-based beauty company Jemella Group Limited's effort to prevent the singer from taking legal action against them, the famous pop singer has filed a $6.5 million countersuit against Good Hair Day's parent company for not holding their end of the bargain

Jemella Group Limited originally filed a complaint in federal court in California a couple weeks ago, saying that in 2011, they agreed to pay Perry $4.5 million to appear in their ads and be a celebrity spokeswoman for the brand for two years, but the singer's camp said there was an oral agreement extending the contract for another two and a half years and another $6.5 million.

In her counterclaim filed in Federal Court on Monday and obtained by E! News, the "Wide Awake" singer claims that while Good Hair Day (ghd) says they have no current valid deal with her, the company "continues to use Perry's name and image on its website to promote is hair care products. ghd has failed to honor its contractual obligations to Perry, yet it continues to benefit from Perry by using her name and image without compensating her."

The legal documents add that the website still labels the pop singer as the company's "brand ambassador."

Twitter’s upcoming two-step sign-in system could prevent the next big hack
When hackers compromised the Associated Press’s Twitter account yesterday, they showed just how much damage one can do with a few scary tweets.
Now, Twitter is finally making it harder for that to happen again. The company is working on a two-factor authentication system for Twitter accounts, which should, in theory, make it harder for hackers to break into them, as Wired reports.
Here’s how it works: Right now when you log into your Twitter account from a new computer or device, Twitter treats that device like any other you’ve used — you just log in and start using the service. With two-factor authentication, that process gets a bit more complicated: Soon, when you try to log in on a new device, Twitter will also send to your phone a random code, which must be entered on you new device before you’re able to use Twitter.
Basically, what two-factor authentication does is add a second layer of security: Hackers may get a hold of your password, but it won’t do them much good if they don’t also have your phone.
While two-factor authentication is new to Twitter, Facebook, Google, and, most recently, Microsoft all already offer it. It’s not perfect, but then again, no security measure really is.

Kanye West Boosts G.O.O.D. Rapper D'Banj's 'Scapegoat' With Two-Verse Remix

Kanye West has mostly been quiet since last year's G.O.O.D. Music album Cruel Summer, but he's been at work on something. At least part of it is for G.O.O.D. Music rapper D'Banj's "Scapegoat," a delightfully sunny song that nudges up against soca. D'Banj is a Nigerian pop star who is the breakout star of Africa's afrobeats scene, which bridges the gap between the sounds and rhythms of Afrobeat to the tempo of dance music. He broke out in Europe last year with the single "Oliver Twist" and appeared on the Cruel Summer track "The Morning," but has mostly been an overseas concern for Kanye's label. "Scapegoat" is a few years old, but has apparently been excavated for a major push worldwide, with West descending from the throne to add two new high-profile verses for a remix.
In his private pursuits, Kanye's reportedly flown various artists to Paris over the past few months, including new Chicago stars King L, Chief Keef, and Young Chop. He's also recorded a few new songs with Daft Punk (via Stereogum), which are apparently slated for his upcoming, allegedly God-making next album.

Kendra Wilkinson - Speaks Out After Car Accident and Hospitalization

We're relieved Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett is alive and tweeting.
The former Girls Next Door star thanked fans for their support via Twitter after she was taken to the hospital following a car accident in Los Angeles on Sunday, writing, "Thank you for all well wishes. Just really reminded me how fragile life really is and how important love really is."
Wilkinson was seen checking into Providence Tarzana Medical Center early Sunday morning after an accident nearby, per reports. A source was quoted as saying the Playboy alum was "in shock" and "really sore" after the incident.
Luckily, Hank Baskett IV's mom reportedly did not suffer any serious injuries and was discharged soon after arriving at the hospital.

Moses Emerges As First Male Nigerian Idol

Nigerian Idol Season 3 finally reached the climax that millions of viewers, home and abroad, waited for, when Moses Obi Adigwe became the first male contestant to win the competition.
He joins the likes of Mercy Chinwo and Yeka Onka, winners of Seasons 1 and 2. The show was a thrill for all who attended the grand finale last weekend at the Dream Studio in Omole, Lagos.
Etisalat Nigeria, the sponsors of the show delivered, as promised, a brand new SUV to the new Idol, who will also receive a N7.5-million cash prize and a recording contract worth another N7.5 million. First Runner-up, Debbie Rise went home with a brand new Kia Picanto, also courtesy Etisalat Nigeria, and N1.5 million whilst second runner-up Safeeyat was rewarded with a one million naira cash prize. The telecom operator also presented cash rewards and devices to the finalists of the top 12 who joined Moses and Debbie on stage.
Opening guest performance of the night was by Yeka, winner of the first season of Nigerian Idol. The performance was followed by Mercy's captivating rendition of her song - "You Go Remember Today". . Koko Master, D'Banj, graced the stage with his signature electrifying atmosphere, while Omawumi did not disappoint with a delivery of her popular track, 'Bottom Belle'. The star performance of the night was that of multiple Grammy Award nominee and Afrobeat singer, Femi Kuti, who doubled as one of the judges on the show. The afrobeat wonder gave an energetic delivery of his new single, 'No Place for my Dream'.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Steven Evans, who was represented at the event by the Director, PMO and Operational Strategy, Ndidi Okpaluba, said the company recognises Nigerian Idol as a platform for identifying young talented Nigerians and a springboard for showcasing the winners to the international audience.

In his comment, one of the judges, Femi Kuti praised Nigerians for their choice. According to him, "Moses shows there is great potential in Nigeria. I am very impressed. What we need to do is lay the foundation for them to grow upon."

187 dead, 77 wounded in northern Nigeria clashes: Red Cross

Baga: Fierce fighting between Nigerian troops and suspected militants has killed 187 people and injured 77 others, a Red Cross spokesman told sources on Monday.

"So far, 187 dead have been buried, while 77 are under admission in hospitals. Over 300 houses were burnt down," Red Cross spokesman Nwakpa O. Nwakpa told sources of the massive gun battles that broke out Friday in the remote northeastern town of Baga.
